Answers to Your Questions
You can, and plenty of people do. What happens though is that every time it rains, water soaks into the timber under your tiles, and wet timber slowly goes soft. Something we could patch up today turns into a full new roof after two or three winters, and by then you are paying several times more for it. Get us out while it is still small. If your roof is fine to leave alone, we will tell you that, and it costs you nothing to hear it.
We put every single cost on the quote in writing. The tile or slate we are using, the lining, the battens, the lead, the scaffolding, the skip and the VAT all get their own line with a price next to it. That way you can lay our quote beside the other two and compare them properly. It also means that when you talk it over at home in the evening, whoever was not there with you can see exactly where the money goes.
We do both. The photo here is the roof above Un Momento, a restaurant we worked on from a platform out in the road, and we look after barber shops and other small businesses around Manchester alongside family homes. One barber rang us about a leak in the morning and we had it finished before he closed that afternoon, because we know you cannot shut your doors for a week while a roof gets sorted.
You get Clayton and the same small team every time. We are based on Mostyn Road in Stockport and we work right across Manchester and Cheshire, so you are dealing with someone down the road from you.
